Allison and Ryan – Engagement Session #2

I was so excited when Allison and Ryan asked me to do a second engagement session for them. When Allison and I met initially she told me all about her horses and how she’s been riding since she was a kid. I really wanted to incorporate them into the shoot. But, at the time, the horses weren’t boarded locally. I’m kind of glad we saved the horses for the second shoot though. Working with horses is much more challenging than I anticipated! The horses couldn’t be ridden because Lacy, the older horse, is injured. And Bach, the younger horse, is too young. It’s funny because Bach is two and having a two year old at home you can see the similarities between the two. They are both stubborn, energetic, and don’t like to follow direction! The main difference is that Bach is so big he usually wins the battles!

Although we had all worked up a sweat at the end (and poor Ryan had rope burns on his hands) I’m really, really happy with the results from this shoot! Beautiful location, beautiful people, and a beautiful love! Can’t wait for the wedding in September! Here’s the slideshow!

Kendra & Colin

Kendra and Colin met their freshman year of high school. They were friends and even played on the water polo team together because the girls didn’t have their own team yet. They dated for a second their sophomore year, went to a dance together, and remained friends all through high school. When Kendra went to UCLA for college and Colin went to UC Irvine, they lost touch and went their separate ways. It was during Kendra’s first year of law school in San Diego that they reconnected through a friend. And this time it was for good!

I love photographing two people that have such a history together. They showed me where they ate lunch and where their lockers were. Kendra and I were in the same sorority although she’s a couple of years younger than I am so I never got to know her all that well. I feel like now after seeing her with Colin and reminiscing with the two of them I know her so much better and I love that!

Kendra and Colin are getting married at the W Hotel in San Diego on New Years Day! 1/1/11 to be exact. They chose San Diego because it holds such great memories from when they first started dating. I’m very excited to start the New Year with them! Here’s the slideshow!

Andrea and Dana

Andrea and Dana have been together for four years. They met after mutual friends introduced them at their favorite breakfast hang out. Dana says they met before that, but Andrea only remembers meeting him that morning After a few years of dating, a puppy, and a new house together Dana unexpectedly proposed on a trip to Catalina. I shouldn’t say unexpectedly because they always knew they were going to get married, but Andrea thought he would propose after their house was done being built. Dana even enlisted the help of two of Andrea’s friends to find out exactly what kind of engagement ring she wanted. How awesome is that?

I love how Andrea and Dana make each other laugh. Whether it’s trying to figure out how to fly a kite (you would think it would be easy, right? Yeah, not so much. That’s why there are no pictures of kites! We finally decided it wasn’t windy enough.) or lovingly teasing one another, you can really tell that these two are the best of friends.

Andrea is a girl after my own heart. Not only does she have a rad name (yes, my real name is Andrea), she also is an aspiring photographer and loves cupcakes. She was even sweet enough to bring Chuck and I cupcakes and brought Brayden a cookie. How thoughtful is she?

Andrea and Dana are getting married on December 11, which also happens to be my husband’s birthday! It’s sure to be a great day! Here’s the slideshow!

Christine and Fernando

It’s always a little scary when you book a client over the phone and have never met them. It’s also extremely embarrassing when you go to meet them for their engagement shoot and sit five feet away from for ten minutes before you realize that they are your clients! They thought I was Asian (they attended a wedding I shot, but thought I was my second shooter) and I thought Christine was brunette (I had no factual reason to believe she was brunette, just thought she was!). I thought they would see me with my cameras, but it turns out they didn’t. I’m glad I went up and asked them

Christine and Fernando met after Fernando’s sister introduced them. Christine was the teacher of Fernando’s niece and they met at her birthday party. Christine fell for Fernando right away, but Fernando is a bit shy. It took Christine finally asking him out for them to go on their first date And now they are getting married!

This lucky couple is having two weddings! Their first wedding is a small, intimate destination wedding being held in August at the Ritz Carlton in Laguna Niguel. Christine lived in California for a few years and loves it here and considers herself a California girl at heart (she still hasn’t changed her 714 area code!). Their second wedding is being held in New Jersey a couples of weeks later.

I’m super excited to be apart of their wedding! It’s going to be a lovely day with lots of time to take pictures For now, here’s the slideshow!

Karyn and Mark

I’m sure many of you will remember Karyn and Mark from Mark’s super sweet anniversary gift to Karyn earlier this year. Mark won the boyfriend of the year award by surprising his girlfriend of 10 years, Karyn, with a photo shoot and a super sweet letter that was posted on the blog. I was so very excited to finally get to meet the two of them at their shoot last week at UCLA. Mark recently finished his MBA at Anderson Business School so they wanted to do their shoot at UCLA. Of course, I never pass up an opportunity to hang out at my old stomping grounds!

I love how you can see just how proud Karyn is of Mark for getting his MBA, but you can also tell how happy she is to finally have her boyfriend back. Mark worked full time while getting his MBA on evenings and the weekends. That’s crazy! Hopefully now that he’s done he can actually start going to UCLA football games with Karyn! And maybe get engaged :) No pressure or anything, Mark!

And one last reason I love Karyn and Mark… their dog, Britney, is named after Britney Spears. How cool is that? I think I’ve finally met people that love her as much as I do! Karyn and Mark, we’re totally going to her next concert together! Here’s your slideshow!

Karen and Alex

Karen and Alex met at church just before graduating from their respective colleges. Shockingly they dated and fell in love although Alex is a Bruin (yeah!) and Karen is a Trojan (boo!). I don’t know how a Bruin could possibly marry a Trojan But, I seem to have a lot of these couples lately so they must not be that bad! Good thing Karen’s negative quality (her Trojaness) is outweighed by her positive qualities – beauty, brains, and a great sense of humor! Poor Alex is forced to go many USC football games, though. That’s love!

We had a lot of fun exploring Laguna Beach together and had beautiful weather after it had just rained the day before. I love shooting in Laguna, but when I was first starting my business I shot there all the time. It’s hard to not shoot at the same places. I had a fun time challenging myself to make Laguna look different and find new places to shoot! I love shooting there this time of year because it’s so beautiful, but we don’t have to deal with the insane amount of people who will flock there in a month or two!

Karen and Alex were referred to me by one of my all time most favorite couples, Ki and Andrew! It will be great to see them at Alex and Karen’s August wedding in Pasadena!

Megan Ann Photography

When another photographer contacts you to shoot their pictures it’s very flattering, but at the same time super nerve wracking. Photographers know what they want and it puts a lot of pressure to do something fun and creative. But, it’s also very flattering because out of all the amazing photographers in Southern California they are picking you to shoot their pictures!

I met Megan about a year ago. She signed up to do a mentoring session with me and we had so much fun! Megan’s business has really grown over the past year and she’s just about finished with a new blog and branding. How exciting!

We had a ton of fun on this shoot! What’s really funny though is that Megan lost her keys at the very beginning of the shoot. We can laugh about it now, but it wasn’t funny at the time! We looked for them for a few minutes, but we were losing light so I told her she just had to forget about it and focus! The gates to the area we were shooting in closed at 5. Once we were done shooting we had about 30 minutes to take down the props and find the keys. We couldn’t find them anywhere! As Megan was calling a dealership to see if she could get a new set of keys I found them! And right at that time the guard was coming to close the gate! It was a close call!

Sara and Brian

Sara and Brian went to high school together. They were friends all four years. And then, after graduation, something felt different and they started dating. Six years, 1 cat, and 2 dogs later they got engaged on a trip to Chicago. In front of Buckingham Fountain (the fountain from Married With Children because that’s how I knew it .

Sara’s smile is infectious. Even shy and reserved Brian who I don’t think loved being in front of the camera could resist Sara’s smile and giggle. They bring out the best in each other. And you can see that they have a history together.

Sara and Brian are getting married this July at Strawberry Farms in Irvine on their 7 year dating anniversary! How special is that? And it also happens to be the day after my 5 year wedding anniversary and the 12 year anniversary of when Chuck and I met in Maui! Good date! Until then here’s the slideshow!

Vanessa & Alan

Vanessa and Alan met at work. On Vanessa’s first day Alan looked up and saw a beautiful girl walk by. He thought to himself, “I’m going to marry that girl someday”. However, Alan didn’t quite have the courage to ask Vanessa out. Vanessa (with the help of a friend) actually asked him out a few months later. And the rest is history

Vanessa and Alan are getting married this June on their 3 year anniversary! They are getting married at the Anaheim Hills Golf Course, which is a beautiful place to get married! I grew up going to the Anaheim Hills Golf Course for cotillion and it will be fun to shoot a wedding there! Vanessa and Alan are so much fun and so in love! I can’t wait to be a part of their very special day! Here’s the slideshow!
